Stolen $950 pay check for alleged Visa bill
I have only made about $1000 in the last 8 months, with zero income in the last 3 up until I was supposed to get my first pay at a new job. I had worked thirteen shifts to get a $1200 ($1020 after taxes) payday. This will not be possible again, as I will only be having 6-8 shifts per check. But when I looked on my banking, it was deposited on time however Visa came in and took $950 for an old bill I couldn't pay before. I realize that they think they have the right to do that, but how do I convince them to give it back? It seems impossible. The best I might be able to do is get them to give me back "rent" money and then send the courtesy notice to them. But this still leaves me feeling robbed. What can I do? The collection department is who I have to speak with about this so I have to wait until Monday. I worked very hard for that money and it was taken by a computer script in my sleep.

Oh, man, Randy. That's tough. I'm so sorry.
I'm going to think on this (while sending you some love and light) and if I get some ideas I'll post here or PM you.

part of this whole thing is to protect yourself. Stop banking the normal way.
I closed all accounts and opened in a local Trust company with no S.I.N number, so it could not be linked.
Leave no more in it than is needed for a ATM withdraw (in case)
Pay cash for everything!!! Get out of the system.
No auto withdraws, need to or want to pay a bill . depoist enough to cover it and pay it.

Thanks Marbolot, tomorrow I am able to call in and talk to the debt collectors. I want to let them know what's going on with the OPPT, but I feel like I would be better off doing so after I secure some of the money back into my possession. However, this trickery might just anger them even more and they'll want my phone number and address and everything so that they can harass me. I feel as if I have been presented with a test.
FMKMRF, does Servus meet the criteria? I don't know if Visa can find my account there, I was just stupid enough to use the old bank account with TD where I had the card.

Randy, I don't see the point of telling the "debt collectors" about the OPPT over the phone. The best, easiest way to do that is with a Courtesy Notice, but it sounds like it's too late for that in your case.
By the way, what do you mean by "debt collectors"? What (former) corporation do they represent? TD Bank? Visa? A third party collection agency?

Yeah it's a bummer but I might as well try, especially for this to happen right now of all times. I should have been more specific, I need to call the Visa department of collections, and tell them that I need my rent money back ($500) as soon as possible. They were just barely closed when I called Friday at 4:30ET. (Funny because they'll call you 24 hours a day if you owe them) At that point I will send a courtesy notice, and hope for the best. I'll keep everyone posted, if anything this will be a lesson for us all.
Another important thing to consider is how the courtesy notice should be changed to fit Canada better. There are enough references to the United States government for someone to dismiss it in this country.

Randy, you send a Courtesy Notice when you get some sort of unsolicited communication (e.g., letter, statement, bill, notice, etc.) from a "creditor". Also, you need to know the name of the individual human being who sent you that communication. If you can't narrow it down to a single person, it's probably okay to send it to every person in the department responsible for sending out such communications, one Courtesy Notice per person.
Regarding this:
Regarding this:
The Courtesy Notice applies to/in every country. This is the purpose of the bolded phrase "any and all international equivalents" in the "Government Charters Cancelled" section near the bottom of the first page.randyjcb wrote:Another important thing to consider is how the

Re: Stolen $950 pay check for alleged Visa bill
Update: I just called in to the bank and spoke with a very reasonable lady about my predicament. She has agreed to send back $550 of the $950, disable automatic withdrawals for my account, as long as I call in by March 1 to arrange a monthly payment plan. Small victory, but it means that I will receive some money back at least.
After this I will send courtesy notices in response to every collection notice I've received via mail and let you all know what happens!

Well, that was decent of her! Good for you!
Ideally, you should only need one Courtesy Notice, in response to the first future collection notice you receive. So, yes, do let us know!
